Privacy Policy

Overview

Clipps ("we," "our," or "the app") is a content saving and organization app. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

What Data We Collect

Account Information

• Email address — collected through Google Sign-In via Firebase Authentication, used to create and manage your account.
• User ID — a unique identifier generated by Firebase Auth, used to associate your saved content with your account.

User Content

• Videos, photos, screenshots, text notes, voice memos, and URLs — content you choose to save to Clipps through the Share Sheet or directly within the app.
• Brain Chat messages — questions and messages you send to the in-app AI assistants ("Brains"), stored to preserve your conversation history.
• AI generated metadata — summaries, tags, categories, and extracted information (such as recipe ingredients) generated from your saved content.

Usage Data

• Product interaction data — how you use app features (e.g., which screens you visit, actions you take). This helps us improve the app.

Diagnostics

• We do not currently collect crash reports or diagnostic data. If this changes, we will update this policy.

How We Use Your Data

We process your saved content with AI to provide features like automatic categorization, recipe extraction, and Brain Chat (asking questions about your saved content). This processing is essential to how Clipps works.

Data Storage

• Cloud storage — your content, metadata, and account data are stored on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure in the United States.
• Desktop app — when using the Clipps desktop app, content may be temporarily stored on your local device during processing.
• Browser storage — the web app uses browser localStorage and cookies for Firebase Authentication session tokens. These are strictly necessary for the app to function and do not track you across websites.
• API credentials — if you provide your own AI API keys, they are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stored in a secured Firestore collection accessible only by our server.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third party services to operate Clipps:

Firebase (Google)

• Firebase Authentication — handles sign-in and account management.
• Firebase Firestore — stores your account data and saved content.

Google Gemini AI

• Content analysis — your saved content is sent to Google's Gemini API for AI processing (categorization, summarization, recipe extraction, Brain Chat responses).
• Gemini API data is processed according to Google's API terms and is not used to train Google's models.

Google Cloud Platform

• All data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure located in the United States.

Anthropic (Claude AI)

• Content analysis — when configured, your saved content may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API for AI processing (categorization, summarization, Brain Chat).
• Data is processed according to Anthropic's API terms and is not used to train Anthropic's models.

OpenAI

• Content analysis — when configured, your saved content may be sent to OpenAI's API for AI processing.
• Data is processed according to OpenAI's API terms. API data is not used for model training by default.

Stripe

• Payment processing — if you purchase credits or a subscription, payment is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information. Stripe collects payment details directly.

We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Data Retention

• Your content and account data are retained as long as your account is active.
• If you delete your account, we delete all associated data within 30 days.
• Anonymized usage data may be retained for up to 12 months for analysis purposes.

Your Rights

All Users

You have the right to:

• Access your data — view all content you've saved in the app at any time.
• Delete your data — delete individual items from the app, or delete your entire account and all associated data via the account deletion feature.
• Export your data — export your saved content, recipes, and content library from within the app.
• Withdraw consent — stop using the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your data from our systems.

European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, the following additional rights and disclosures apply:

• Lawful basis for processing — we process your data based on: (a) contractual necessity (to provide the Clipps service), (b) legitimate interest (to improve and secure the app), and (c) consent (for optional analytics).
• Right to rectification — you may correct inaccurate personal data by editing your content within the app.
• Right to erasure — you may request deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Right to data portability — you may export your data in standard formats using the app's export features.
• Right to restrict processing — you may request that we limit how we process your data.
• Right to object — you may object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Cross-border transfers — your data is stored and processed in the United States. We rely on standard contractual clauses for data transfers from the EEA to the US.
• Supervisory authority — you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, the following additional rights apply:

• Right to know — you may request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• Right to delete — you may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to opt-out of sale — we do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
• Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

Children's Privacy

Clipps is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Data Security

We use industry standard security practices including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Firebase Security Rules to restrict data access to authorized users
• Authentication required for all data access

No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

Tracking

We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use advertising identifiers. We do not participate in ad networks.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
